PSVI Events in Bosnia and Herzegovina

Following its launch in Bosnia-Herzegovina (BiH) at the Congress Hall of Parliament on Wednesday 19th November 2014, the ‘International Protocol on the Documentation and Investigation of Sexual Violence in Conflict’ was presented in Mostar, Banja Luka, Brčko, and Zenica to civil society organizations, victims’ associations, international organizations, activists, local government officials, Bosnian students and members of the general public.

The International Protocol on the Documentation and Investigation of Sexual Violence in Conflict (PSVI) was presented at each event by British Embassy representatives and experts working on the development of the Protocol. Total attendance across the course of the four events numbered approximately 350 individuals, whilst significant media coverage was received at local and national levels.

 

“My Body: A War Zone” Photography Exhibition

This exhibition “My Body: A War Zone”, created by PROOF: Media for Social Justice in partnership with PCRC, features the portraits and testimonies of women survivors of sexual violence from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Nepal, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Colombia. It was unveiled at the launch of the International Protocol in Sarajevo and displayed in prominent locations at each of the local events.

 

Warriors of Peace: A Women’s Film and Photography Series

Between the 25th and 27th November this series explored survivorsʼ experiences of sexual violence in conflict, the stigmatism and socio- economic challenges that theyʼve faced since, and the shortcomings and challenges of existing responses.

The film series included screenings of “I Came to Testify” and “War Redefined” of PBSʼ Women War and Peace documentary series; Unprotected and Uspomene 677 produced by PCRC; Angelina Jolieʼs In the Land of Blood and Honey; and Duhovi Prošlosti produced by the ICTY.

The photographic exhibition “Hasija's Story” by Velija Hasanbegović, which features one Bosnian womanʼs plight after surviving rape camp detainment, was also unveiled at the launch of the event. It was subsequently displayed at the presentation on the International Protocol on the Documentation and Investigation of Sexual Violence in Conflict in Zenica.
