The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC), in partnership with the BMW Group, selected PCRC’s Ordinary Heroes Peacebuilding Program from over 600 applicants representing over 100 countries to receive 1st place for the 2014-15 Intercultural Innovation Award. During the Award Ceremony held as part of the 6th Global Forum of the UNAOC in Bali, Indonesia, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon personally recognized PCRC and its Ordinary Heroes Program. Our work was also presented in front of approximately 1,200 forum participants representing heads of states and governments, foreign ministers, and members of the Alliance Group of Friends.
This award is given to the most innovative grassroots projects that promote intercultural dialogue, understanding, and cooperation around the world, and PCRC’s project was selected not only for its innovation, but also for its potential for expansion and replication in a broad range of contexts worldwide. As part of the award, the UNAOC has been working directly with PCRC to help build its capacity and expand the program’s activities to other parts of the Balkans region and the world.
