The implementation of the teaching manual “Holocaust and peace – Lessons from the past for the future” in the official curriculum of the Bosnia-Podrinje Canton (BPC) represents a significant step forward in formal peace education. The teacher training in Goražde was officially held, expanding this program after its successful application in Sarajevo Canton. The manual, which was developed by teachers and educators throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, consists of four modules and eleven interconnected lessons that deal with the topics of discrimination, propaganda, identity, human rights, memorialization, moral courage and many others through a different approach to the study of history. It is intended for primary and secondary school teachers and provides practical tools for developing critical thinking and moving from ethnocentric narratives to universal lessons about tolerance, human rights and peace.
The training was held in cooperation with the organization Pro Peace Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Ministry of Education, Youth, Science, Culture and Sports, and the Pedagogical Institute of the Bosnia-Podrinje Canton of Goražde. The training was led by Professor Snježana Melunović from High School Obala Sarajevo, Elijas Tauber from the Jewish Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Azerina Muminović from the Institute for the Development of Pre-University Education of Canton Sarajevo and Đuldina Kurtović from the Third High School Sarajevo.
