This June, our Center coordinated a study visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina in cooperation with the Center for Global Affairs of New York University (NYU). The aim of the program was to provide female students with practical knowledge and first-hand experience, offering an interdisciplinary context for understanding key issues of transitional justice, dealing with the past and building peace in post-conflict Bosnia and Herzegovina.
After visiting The Hague and the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Courts (IRMCT), the students stayed in Sarajevo, Srebrenica and Mostar, where they spoke with representatives of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), the Srebrenica Memorial Center, the Youth for Peace Association, the CURE Foundation, La Benevolencija, the ICTY Information Center in Sarajevo, the Local Democracy Agency Mostar, the Abrašević Youth Cultural Center, the TRIAL International Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Humanity in Action Bosnia and Herzegovina and the PCRC.
As part of the program, they also visited the Sarajevo Tunnel of Hope and the War Childhood Museum, where they learned about the personal stories and experiences of people who lived during the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
