Between 1997 – 1999, Scottish photographer Chris Leslie set up and ran a photo project in the basement of Sarajevo orphanage, Dom Bjelave. The children from the orphanage and surrounding neighborhoods photographed life from their perspective in a city recovering from jaw-dropping destruction.
Most of the photographs taken by these young people lay hidden away as negatives for more than 20 years. Chris will present a unique and honest perspective of Sarajevo through the Sarajevo Camera Kids exhibition set to open on November 11 in Sarajevo City Hall. For this exhibition, these images have finally been developed and printed for the first time, revealing an honest and unique perspective of a Sarajevo that no longer exists.
Sarajevo Camera Kids was created in partnership with the Post-Conflict Research Center (PCRC), with support from the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and in cooperation with the City of Sarajevo’s Information Centre on the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.
